TRB 2025 Overview

The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), Tamil Nadu, conducts state-level recruitment examinations to fill teaching and educational officer posts across Tamil Nadu government institutions. The exam is conducted offline through an OMR-based system. It comprises 150 multiple-choice questions, lasts 3 hours, and has no negative marking. Types of TRB Exams

TRB conducts various category-wise exams:

TRB 2025 Exam Pattern (General)

The exam consists of three parts:

  1. Main Subject – This is the core subject (like Tamil, English, Mathematics, etc.) depending on the post applied. It covers around 110 marks.

  2. Educational Methodology – Focuses on pedagogy, teaching methods, learning theories, etc., for about 30 marks.

  3. General Knowledge – Includes current affairs and Tamil Nadu-specific GK, carrying around 10 marks.
    The total marks are 150, and the duration is 3 hours.

TRB PG Assistant Eligibility

Candidates must have a Master’s degree in the subject they are applying for and a B.Ed. degree. The exam follows a postgraduate-level syllabus. The age limit is 40 years for the general category, with relaxations for reserved categories. Major subjects include Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, History, Commerce, and more.

TRB Polytechnic Lecturer Eligibility

Applicants must possess a B.E. or B.Tech degree in the relevant engineering stream. The age limit is up to 57 years (superannuation age). The syllabus is based on the undergraduate engineering curriculum of Tamil Nadu. Disciplines include Civil, Mechanical, EEE, ECE, Computer Science, and others.

TRB Special Teachers Eligibility

This recruitment is for teachers in Music, Drawing, Sewing, and Physical Education. Required qualifications vary by post—generally, a diploma or degree in the relevant subject is needed. The age limit is around 40 years (with relaxation). The syllabus includes subject knowledge and general knowledge.

TRB BEO (Block Educational Officer) Eligibility

Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's degree and a B.Ed. The maximum age limit is typically 35 years for general candidates. The syllabus includes General Studies, Pedagogy, Educational Management, and Tamil Nadu GK.

TRB Computer Instructor Eligibility

This post requires a Postgraduate degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, along with a B.Ed. The upper age limit is 40 years. The syllabus includes topics from programming, operating systems, networking, software engineering, and database systems—equivalent to PG-level content.

Recommended Preparation Materials

Candidates should use Samacheer Kalvi books (Classes 6 to 12) for foundational knowledge. For the main subject, postgraduate or degree-level textbooks relevant to the post should be referred to. Previous year question papers, standard TRB guides, and books on pedagogy and teaching aptitude (like IGNOU B.Ed. content) are also crucial for success.
